HBCSD Announces New Assistant Principals at Sowers Middle School

Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD) is pleased to announce Ms. Nicole Bear and Ms. Lauren Goodner as the new assistant principals of Sowers Middle School, beginning August 15, 2024.


"Ms. Nicole Bear and Ms. Lauren Goodner bring important expertise and a strong commitment to student achievement to our HBCSD team," said Superintendent Dr. Leisa Winston. "Their guidance promises to foster a positive and supportive learning environment for our students and staff."


Ms. Nicole Bear


Bringing nearly 15 years of educational experience, Ms. Bear joins us from Gahr High School in the ABC Unified School District, where she served as the Secondary School Dean. At ABC Unified, Ms. Bear demonstrated exceptional administration by counseling students on course schedules, developing 504 Plans, facilitating credit recovery programs, and overseeing emergency responses. Her proactive approach to instructional leadership through professional development and as Summer School Principal emphasizes her commitment to student success.


Ms. Bear holds a Master of Arts from California State University, Long Beach, a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of California, Irvine, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley.


Ms. Lauren Goodner


With over 20 years in education, Ms. Lauren Goodner most recently served as Assistant Principal at Los Alisos Middle School in Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District (NLMUSD). She is recognized for her strategic leadership in enhancing instructional rigor, curriculum development, and ensuring equitable educational outcomes. Ms. Goodner’s expertise extends to instructional technology integration and supporting educators through tailored training initiatives.


Ms. Goodner earned her Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University, teaching credentials from National University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from California State University, Long Beach.


"As visionary leaders with integrity and demonstrated commitment to a positive school culture and community engagement, we are confident that Ms. Bear and Ms. Goodner will help lead Sowers Middle School with excellence," concluded Dr. Winston.
