Proposed Peterson Elementary School Field Lighting Project - Notice of Intent

Posted Date: 02/13/26 (10:00 AM)

The Huntington Beach City School District is sharing this Notice of Intent (NOI) to adopt a Mitigated Negative Declaration for the proposed Peterson Elementary School Field Lighting Project. The project involves the addition of three light poles to provide athletic field lighting on the existing Peterson Elementary playfield. The lighting would support youth sports and school-related activities, allowing continued use of the field during shorter daylight months.

As required by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the District completed an environmental review of the proposed project. This process evaluates potential environmental impacts and identifies measures to reduce those impacts. The District’s Initial Study determined that, with mitigation measures in place, potential impacts would be reduced to less than significant levels as defined by CEQA.

Before filing this NOI, the District held a community meeting on January 21, 2026, to share information about the proposal and provide an opportunity for early input. An additional community meeting will be held on February 23, 2026, as part of our continued effort to keep neighbors and the community informed throughout the review process.

The purpose of this 30-day public review period is to provide you with an opportunity to review the Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration and submit written comments. The review period runs from February 16, 2026, through March 18, 2026. We welcome your feedback and encourage you to submit any comments by 5:00 p.m. on March 18, 2026.

Copies of the document are available at the District Office and the District website as noted in the attached Notice of Intent. We appreciate your continued engagement and partnership in supporting our students and community.
