Bus Storage Facility Project

In response to the public feedback on the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) for the HBCSD Bus Storage Facility, the District postponed Board consideration of the CEQA IS/MND in June to allow more time to address the concerns raised during the public comment period thoroughly.

Given the additional time needed to consider and address community concerns, the Board authorized District staff at the August 13 Board meeting to negotiate a lease extension for the Gothard warehouse, where buses are currently stored. This also provides District staff additional time to pursue alternative options for a permanent bus storage solution.

Maintenance and Operations Building Project

In early June, the City of Huntington Beach Design Review Board (DRB) approved the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Building design with recommendations. The City of Huntington Beach Zoning Administrator approved the project with some of the DRB recommendations on June 19.  However, this approval was subsequently appealed by a member of the City of Huntington Beach Planning Commission. The District presented the project to the Planning Commission, which required the District to conduct a noise study and provide a copy of the geotechnical report.  The Planning Commission will reconsider the matter once the studies are provided at a date to be determined.

At the August 13 Board meeting, a contract was approved to conduct a noise study. The study will be prepared and submitted to the Planning Commission along with the geotechnical reports as part of the review process.
